Emily C. is one of my best friends. We originally met online on a Narnia forum, and we have now been friends for over ten years. She and our mutual friend Elizabeth have often made trips to visit me in the past, but because of COVID-19, I haven’t seen either of them since summer 2019. Fortunately, we have still stayed in touch online just as much as always, along with the additional excitement of regular Jackbox games with two of our other friends from our Narnia forum days.
I haven’t done the best job of adding quotes to my quote collection after journaling about our game times, so I don’t have as many quotes for Emily as I should, but her other comments should hopefully appear in future blog posts after I’ve run across them again. For now, this is what I have, and I wish Emily a very happy birthday.
“Murdering someone by throwing them down a well doesn’t seem great for your water quality.”
“In the library’s staff bathroom, which doubles as some storage, there’s an ‘Emergency Preparedness’ kit. I’ve never opened it, so there might be some stuff I can’t see, but as far as I can tell through the package, it consists of two kinds of rope and a roll of duct tape. And recently someone added yet another rope. I’m not sure what kinds of emergencies they expect us to be prepared for, but if we ever have to tie a criminal to a chair, we’ll be all set.”
About a childhood grocery store trip with her grandmother: “She asked me if I wanted anything, and I said, ‘Carrots!’ She thought, ‘Oh, good, something healthy!’ Really, I wanted Cheetos. I just called them carrots.”
After her Bible reading: “Today I’m thankful I’m not one of the priests whose job was to examine people’s skin diseases.”
“My superpower is finding really cheap textbooks. It was useful for three and a half years.”
“I just got a stick of butter out of the fridge so it will be room temperature when I need it later. I might never be this on top of things again.”
“I could handle the couple’s therapy… I don’t know about the porcupines!”
When her adorable drawing got matched with an evil caption: “It was supposed to be A CUTE BEE!”
The rest of us assured her that her intentions came through. It is a cute bee. A cute, bloodthirsty bee!
