Further Adventures in the Mountains

Last weekend, Dad and I went to the mountains to see my friends Levi and Caley get married. The wedding was on Saturday, and on Sunday, before Dad and I drove home, we spent hours visiting one of my mom's brothers and his wife. Uncle Walton and Aunt Betty live on an idyllic property with hiking trails, ponds, a waterfall, and beautiful views in every direction. I enjoyed spending time with them, seeing their animals, and exploring the farm.

These first three photos are from the rental property where I stayed with Dad:
When we arrived at Walton and Betty's, the first excitement was meeting Josephine Squeak, their new pig. Heidi, one of their dogs, is very jealous of the piglet, and demands equal attention.
Years ago, Walton and Betty acquired this house and the surrounding property, which adjoins theirs. After countless hours of renovation and restoration, "The Pioneer House" is complete and furnished. An independent film crew recently finished filming their historical fiction story, "The Mountain Minor," here. It will be a family treasure, because it showcases the land and features cameo appearances from family members and some of the animals.
This cider press is from the 1800s.
Around the farm were hideaways for fairies and toy critters.
This is my grandfather's scoutmaster hat and board of knots.
We fed chickens and watched the piglet.
Uncle Walton is very proud of the chestnut tree on his property, which he believes is the tallest in the country. Because of disease, chestnut trees rarely grow to be this tall, and this one is exceptional. He has been in communication with the American Chestnut Association (I never knew there was such a thing), and has mailed them samples.
Mushrooms!
